(ARA) – Drivers, why not every day Earth Day />

According to officials of the national nonprofit Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), drivers can the environment and their own finances, helping some habits. This may be a surprise to those who wait for hybrid vehicles and alternative propulsion became popular thinking ahead.

ASE recommends regular vehicle maintenance and driving habits better than can miss two action plans. Here are some unique, easy to implement advice from the ASE.

- Keep the engine running at full capacity – a failed spark plug can reduce fuel consumption up to 30 percent. Replace filters and fluids as recommended in your owner’s manual. A well-tuned engine burns less fuel and less responsible than a neglected vehicle. Furthermore, engine performance can only get worse if neglected.

- If you do your own repairs, be a good citizen. Engine fluids and batteries properly. One liter of motor oil can pollute thousands of gallons of water. Antifreeze can poison poured on the soil fauna and animals. Some repair shops accept fluids and parts. Or call your local government for more information.

- Keep tires properly inflated and aligned. If your air pressure is only a few pounds low, you force the engine to work harder (read: burn more fuel) to move only around the vehicle. Tires for your vehicle work harder and false. Consider also that poorly maintained tires wear faster, which means more waste must be separated and recycled, or landfilled.

- If you do not have much of a do-it-lovers, finding a good technician. Ask friends for recommendations. Check the reputation of the shop with your local consumer group. Check the credentials technician. ASE-certified technicians have passed one or more of the national car testing in specialty areas such as energy and air conditioning.

- Have your car air conditioning maintenance by a technician certified to handle and recycle refrigerants. Older air conditioners contain chemicals that deplete the ozone layer, which could be released into the atmosphere by a malfunction.

- Avoid sudden acceleration and speed. Patterns of gas and drinking put extra wear on your engine, transmission, steering and suspension and other components. Use cruise control and anticipate traffic patterns to come. As a side effect your brakes will last longer.

- Off until family or friends, the engine. Consolidate daily errands to avoid unnecessary travel. And, yes, go more often.

- Delete the words in excess in the truck, since less weight means less fuel consumption. Remove the roof rack to reduce aerodynamic drag on vacation.

If appeals to save the environment are not enough, consider this: A poll of ASE-certified technicians will automatically show a well-maintained vehicle will last longer than a 50 percent failed. Good car care saves you money and help the environment – a win-win

.
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972 as a nonprofit, independent organization established to improve the quality of service and car repair through voluntary testing and certification of professionals Auto. ASE-certified technicians wear blue and white ASE shoulder insignia and carry credentials listing their exact areas of certification. Their employers often display the ASE sign.
